Rest Break Update
Following the recent consultative ballot, the three Trade Unions informed both the employer
and the Scottish Government of your decision, a 94% mandate in favour of industrial
action and requested a meeting to discuss the outcome.
On 15th May, the employer and the Scottish Government met with the three Trade Unions
to present a draft counter-proposal.
The Trade Unions unanimously rejected the proposal, stating that it offered less protection than the current arrangements and was not acceptable to take back to members.
After extensive discussions, the Trade Unions requested that the previous “Special Break”
provisions be reinstated as a starting point to improve members’ wellbeing while rest break
negotiations continue.
Key Updates
- “Special Break” protections will be reinstated from Friday 23rd May. These provisions will be reviewed 6 weeks from that date.
- Rest break discussions will resume next week.
- Meanwhile, the Trade Unions will continue preparations for a CIVICA (legal) Industrial
Action Ballot.
